Alpaca fibers are naturally odour, stain and wrinkle resistant which means the garments can go a long way between cleaning. We encourage you to hang your Alpaca blanket outside, avoiding direct sunlight, to air it out occasionally as dry cleaning is not good for the environment. When the day comes that you do need to clean your Alpaca blanket or throw, please read the care instructions on the garment first or dry clean only.
BLACKSAW blankets and throws are made primarily of Alpaca. This means washing will result in shrinkage and loss of fabric smoothness, even using careful methods. Unless the blanket states “washable”, please dry clean only.
STORAGE & AVOIDING MOTH DAMAGE
An Alpaca blanket or throw can last for decades, but it’s greatest enemies are moths and other pests that can cause damage. If you need to tuck your Alpaca blanket or throw away during warmer months, dry clean it first, then store it in a safe place with insect repelling cedar chips or lavender bundles. Remember, if you plan on putting it away dirty, insects are drawn to the dirt and bodily oils on the fibers. Please do not store in a plastic bag or dry cleaning bag as this will allow moisture to build up and fibers to felt. Light and airy spaces are highly recommended. All BLACKSAW blankets ship with a cotton canvas drawstring bag for safe storage.
PREVENTING AND REMOVING PILLS
Typically soft, fuzzy surfaces tend to be a little vulnerable to pilling. Alpaca is less prone to pilling than other materials like wool and cashmere. If the fibers start to tangle and pill, regular brushing can untangle the surface. Use a lint brush or a nylon bristled clothing brush for best results.
