We make BLACKSAW Blankets and throws from one of the finest materials on the planet... Alpaca. This means luxury, durability and of course comfort. Let’s face it, wool is itchy on the skin and can be uncomfortable. This Eco-friendly material is as soft as cashmere, 7x warmer than wool, is hypoallergenic, moisture wicking and resistant to odour, matting and pilling.
Alpaca is as soft as cashmere, lighter and warmer than wool and becoming known as one of the world’s most luxurious fibers. Join the movement.
Alpaca fleece is famous for being hypoallergenic, which means it doesn’t scratch or prickle the skin like wool products do. Alpaca fiber doesn’t contain Lanolin, an oil generated by sheep, (wool), that can be very irritating on the skin. Let’s face it, no one wants an itchy blanket.
Much like the Polar Bear, the Alpaca is a hollow fibered animal. Air pockets allow heat to get trapped in each fiber, which makes a beautiful combination of great thermal insulation and ultra lightweight feel.
Too much heat can be just as bad as not enough. Alpaca has superior breathability. It wicks away body moisture and is warm when wet. Don’t let its lightweight and premium feel fool you.
Remember that these animals are rugged and survive long Andean winters. Maybe that’s why these fibers last longer than most other luxury fabrics, such as wool, cashmere, and silk.
This all-natural, renewable, biodegradable fiber comes in 22 natural colours.
Our blankets consist of long-lasting, lustrous fibers that are stain and odor resistant.
Alpaca fibers have a natural water-resistant property that allows you to simply blot away minor spills. They are also resistant to accumulating odors. Please see ourGarment Care page for any additional information.
Alpaca is a natural fiber so it will not burn unless it is in direct contact with a flame, unlike Acrylics and other man-made synthetic fibers.
Alpaca fibers are also resistant to wrinkling and won’t shrink if proper care is given, making it possible to keep your BLACKSAW Alpaca products for decades. Everything good needs a little love and care.
No one likes getting shocked.
This is what happens when you live over 4000 meters, (13 000 feet) above sea level.
Alpaca is very Eco-friendly to process as it provides a very high yield of fiber after processing (between 87% -95%) compared to sheep's wool (43% -76%).
Don’t worry, we are not harming or shearing babies. BLACKSAW Baby Alpaca is humanely shorn each spring from the underside of the neck and body of our Alpaca’s, where the fiber is the finest and softest (22.5 microns).
Our fibers are classified manually according to fineness and sorted in quality by microns. Baby Alpaca represents the finest and softest wool at (22.5 microns). The name “baby” reflects quality, not age.
